The Sapien Process Technologies team has been involved in projects introducing continuous processing to the pharmaceutical and fine chemical sectors since 2005.

Our initial skill set was the mechanical build of fluid handling systems and project managment excellence. Our first project was the mechnical design and build of a fully continuous pilot plant for the primary production of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient.

In 2007 Sapien Process Technologies was established as a business dedicated to this continuous processing sector. The intention was to understand the issues of this innovative space from the perspective of end-users and bring all the process equipment disciplines such as mechanical, electrical and control system build under one roof.

Initial projects involved concept designs. In 2008, Sapien entered collaborative agreements with : NiTech Solutions on baffle reactors and Phoenix Chemical on Variable Residence Time Technology; and manufactured an automated pilot plant Plug Flow Reactor for Syngenta UK Ltd.

In 2009 Sapien organised the first 'Batch to Continuous' seminar attended by the leading, international innovators and was part of a successful Technology Strategy Board High Value Manufacturing grant with GSK, Brunel University and Dynamic Extractions.
